Florida window tint

Are you interested in getting your windows tinted, but unsure of the laws surrounding them? Are you wanting to double-check the regulations on window tint before you get it installed on your car? If so, then you need to learn all you can about Florida window tint law.

As far as state regulations go, the state of Florida is pretty relaxed on tint laws. All you need to know is the minimum amount of light that the rules allow to be blocked.

See below for an in-depth guide on Florida car window tint law, what the regulations are, and why they're necessary for the Sunshine State.

Why Are Florida Window Tint Laws Important?

This is the second most common question that we get regarding window tint (the most common being "What are the Florida window tint laws?"). Why are Florida tint laws even necessary in the first place? Isn't it your car?

These rules are in place to protect everyone that's driving on the road—yourself included. Window film uses a reflective feature to protect your car from UV light and reflect it away from the inside of the car.

But as we know, when that light gets reflected, it's gets directed elsewhere and can cause a glare to another driver on the road. The more light that window film blocks, the more reflective it needs to be. That's why there are regulations on tint reflection.

The primary reason for regulations on tint darkness is for your protection. The darker your tint is, the more it impedes your ability to drive. Florida has figured out the VLT (Visible Light Transmission) that can help you block light without inhibiting your vision on the road.

Getting the proper window tint is a part of safe driving. By protecting yourself, you protect other drivers on the road with you.

What Are the Florida Window Tint Laws?

Alright, so now that you understand the purpose of Florida window tint laws and why they are so important, let's break them down.

Essentially, the regulations are broken down into two categories: regulations for tint darkness and regulations for tint reflection. The tint darkness rules are specific to the type of car you're driving (sedan vs SUV), while the tint reflection laws are universal for all car types.

Let's start with the tint reflection regulations. Regardless of what car type you're driving, your front side windows cannot be more than 25-percent reflective.

The back side windows can have a bit more reflection, but can't surpass 35-percent reflection. The idea is that it provides more protection for your children, luggage, etc.

As for tint darkness, Florida is more concerned about the visible light transmission. For any type of car, your front side windows have to allow more than 28-percent of light in.

However, the regulations for tint darkness regulations vary for the back side windows and rear window on sedans vs SUVs (or vans).

For sedans, your back side windows and rear window have to allow at least 15-percent of light inside. Meanwhile, for the SUVs, your back side windows and rear windows only have to allow 6-percent or more light to enter in.

Improved Aesthetic

We realize this isn't a secret. There's no denying that tinted windows automatically enhance the look of your car.

Whether you're looking to murder out a black SUV or make your Chrysler 300 appear even more luxurious, it's sure to cause people to do a double-take on the road.

Better yet, there are many different types of auto window tints that we offer, making it even easier to customize your look and get the perfect amount of window tints for your car. You'll love the results!

Protects Your Car's Upholstery

Perhaps you have noticed that the inside of your car is looking a bit older than it is. Maybe you're wanting to protect the integrity of your new car's interior color.

Whatever the case might be, Florida window tint can help! The window tint blocks 99-percent of all ultraviolet rays trying to make their way into your car, thus preventing any cracking or color fading in your car.

This can give you a higher return on your investment as well, as it will hold your car's value until you go to sell it one day.

More Privacy

Everyone wants more privacy on the road. Imagine having more privacy for yourself and your family while you're driving around. Nosy people won't be able to peek inside.

This also lessens the chance of a break-in. Since it will be harder for people to see inside the car, they won't risk breaking in.

Window film also enhances the security of your windows, as it prevents your window glass from shattering due to blunt force, such as flying debris during a severe thunderstorm.
